Domain Popularity

In the field of Search Engine Optimization (SEO), the Domain Popularity (short: Domain Pop) is an important Key Performance Indicator (KPI) for the value of a website. It is particularly interesting for building a link profile. In contrast to Link Popularity, also known as link popularity, the pure number of all backlinks to a website is not solely considered. Rather, Domain Popularity provides information about the number of links from different web domains. Consequently, in its calculation, quality plays a more significant role than the mere quantity of incoming backlinks. The idea behind it: If a website receives recommendations in the form of links from different link sources and these pages enjoy a good reputation accordingly, then the linked website must be of high quality. Search engines like Google take this into account for ranking in the SERPs. For this reason, Domain Popularity is important for effective link building within the framework of search engine optimization.
How do you calculate domain popularity?
While link popularity considers the total number of backlinks pointing to a website and calculates its value based on that, domain popularity only counts the domains from which links originate and lead to a website. Consequently, in the calculation of domain pop, each domain is only considered once, regardless of how many backlinks it has set to the website. The type of backlink is also irrelevant for the calculation: both links from the content and references from the blogroll are considered.
In search engine optimization, domain popularity is considered one of the most important SEO metrics for a good and sustainable ranking in the search results of Google and others. The reason for this is the original idea of the Internet or the consideration of backlinks in Google's ranking: A link on the World Wide Web is a "recommendation," and the more different domains recommend a website, the more valuable it appears.
Several factors determine the backlink profile of a website
Is high domain popularity thus synonymous with a high ranking of a page? Although it is considered very important by many SEO specialists, domain popularity is merely one part of the factors that determine a positive and effective link profile and thus influence positioning in search engines. Among other things, the structure (distribution of backlinks), the trust, as well as the domain popularity of the website from which a link originates, play a crucial role in link building. Additional factors include bad neighborhood and the number of backlinks with keywords or stopwords. It's important to avoid links from bad neighborhoods (such as pages that use black hat SEO). Links can be checked with the Google Search Console.
An increase in domain popularity is IP popularity, where only those backlinks are counted that come from different IP addresses. Consequently, if several websites are hosted on the same server, only one backlink is used for the calculation. Creating a balanced link structure becomes much more complex when considering IP popularity.
Link purchase and link exchange advisable for building domain pop?
When it comes to link building, it's definitely important that everything appears natural. Accordingly, the search engine Google has long been taking action against unnatural link generation – for instance, through link buying and link exchanges. It's better to acquire backlinks through high-quality web content. Of course, outreach is also a good option – such as in the form of a guest post on another website from which a backlink originates. If you manage to connect with different sites in this way, it also increases domain popularity.
