Shopware 6. Symfony. Backend architecture. Develop backend systems you will still be proud of in three years.

Job description.

You don’t want to just work through tickets, but develop scalable backend architectures and take responsibility for technical decisions.

At arboro you develop scalable Shopware 6 backends based on Symfony – from conception and API development through to platform integration. You work in a small, experienced development team with short communication paths, high quality standards and real technical co-design.

Our projects range between €40,000 and €150,000 in project volume – from individual Shopware 6 backends to complex system integrations and scalable platform solutions. No throwaway projects, but systems that must be maintainable in the long term.

How we work.

Git-flow with pull requests and mandatory code reviews
Unit tests and integration tests as a fixed component
Static code analysis with PHPStan and Psalm
CI/CD pipelines with automated deployments (e.g. Bitbucket Pipelines)
Docker-based development environments
Jira for project and ticket management
Sustainable solutions instead of technical debt

Our tech stack.

PHP 8.x · Shopware 6 · Symfony · MySQL · Redis · Elasticsearch · RabbitMQ · REST APIs · Docker · Git · CI/CD

What you bring.

Must-have.

Several years of experience with PHP frameworks (e.g. Symfony, Laravel)
Sound knowledge of object-oriented programming (OOP)
Experience with design patterns
Confident handling of version control with Git
Independent, structured and solution-oriented way of working
High standards for clean code and easily understandable code quality
Strong in debugging complex systems
Experience with software testing (unit and integration tests)
Experience in developing REST APIs and integrations of external systems
Experience in working with relational databases and SQL

Nice-to-have.

Experience with shop systems, e.g. Shopware
Experience in the frontend area (e.g. JavaScript frameworks, SCSS or LESS)
Experience with PHP template engines (e.g. Twig)
Experience with CI/CD pipelines (e.g. GitLab CI, GitHub Actions)
Experience with containerization via Docker
Debugging via XDebug
Experience with performance optimization and caching strategies (e.g. Redis, Valkey)
Experience with search technologies in e-commerce (e.g. Elasticsearch)
Experience with code quality tools (e.g. PHPStan or Psalm)
Experience in the e-commerce environment
Experience with agile methods

You don’t meet all the points 100%? No problem – if you really know PHP, work professionally and have high quality standards, we look forward to your application.

This is what you do at arboro.

Development of individual Shopware 6 backends and e-commerce platforms
Conception and implementation of sophisticated system architectures
Development of REST APIs and integrations of external systems (ERP, PIM, CRM)
You accompany features from technical conception through to productive deployment
Further development and optimization of existing platforms
Carrying out and participating in code reviews
Performance optimization and quality assurance
Close cooperation with frontend developers and project management
Active co-design of our backend standards and development processes

Working at arboro – our development team.

Since 2009, we have been developing sophisticated e-commerce projects for medium-sized companies throughout the DACH region. As a Shopware Gold Partner, we develop Shopware projects with high technical quality and know the platform in depth – we expect the same from you.

You work together with an experienced development team of backend, full-stack and frontend developers as well as technical project management. Technical decisions are made within the team at eye level – not via hierarchy levels.

What you can expect.

100% remote – no mandatory presence, no office obligation
Anyone who would like to come to Schwaigern occasionally is welcome – but it is not a must
Flexible working hours, personal responsibility instead of control
Projects with €40,000 – €150,000 volume – e-commerce development closely interlinked with SEO/GEO and SEA
Modern equipment – free choice between Mac, Windows or Linux
30 days of vacation
Company pension scheme with employer contribution
Edenred non-cash benefit card (€48 per month tax-free, after probationary period)
Business bike leasing (after probationary period)
Tax-free recreation allowance
Shopware certification (Certified Developer) – mandatory, actively supported
Further training where you are intrinsically motivated – without coercion, with support

Why arboro?.

No ticket pressure, no velocity games. Technical proposals are discussed and decided on their merits – not dictated by project managers. We prioritize maintainability over short-term deadlines. The code you write today is something you must still be able to stand behind in two years.

We do not expect all-rounders. Good backend development is created through specialization, clean architecture and continuous further development.

You have direct contact with the developers in the team and implement technical decisions without multiple management levels.

FAQ – Frequently asked questions about the PHP position at arboro

Yes, completely. No mandatory office days, no attendance control. Anyone who would like to come to the office in Schwaigern occasionally is welcome – but it is not a must.

PHP 8.x with Symfony as the basis of Shopware 6, MySQL, Redis for caching, Elasticsearch for search, RabbitMQ for messaging, REST APIs and Docker-based development environments. The stack is evolving – modern approaches are actively used.

60% further development and optimization of existing platforms, 40% new developments – backends, integrations, system architectures. Both areas have technical depth.

That depends on the project. In existing projects there is grown code – in new developments you start from scratch. Code reviews and static analysis are a fixed part so that technical debt does not grow uncontrollably.

One team lead, two full-stack developers, two backend developers, one frontend developer and one project manager. Small structure, short communication paths.

Yes, mandatory for every pull request. For quality assurance, knowledge sharing and a long-term maintainable codebase.

Technical proposals are discussed and decided on professionally within the team. You contribute ideas and actively help shape backend standards – without several management layers in between.

Through direct professional exchange in the development team. We make architecture decisions together – good technical arguments count more than hierarchies.

Individual Shopware 6 backends, REST API development, system integrations, performance optimizations, B2B platforms, migration projects and e-commerce relaunches.

Mandatory code reviews for every pull request, unit tests and integration tests, static analysis with PHPStan and Psalm, structured QA process before every release. Sustainable solutions instead of quick workarounds.

Not by the number of tickets. Decisive are sustainable technical solutions, system stability, code quality and collaboration in the team.

Yes – Shopware Certified Developer is mandatory and is actively supported. Beyond that, we promote further training where intrinsic motivation is present – without prescribed programs.

High level of personal responsibility, flexible working hours. Reliable coordination within the team is important – no time clock, no monitoring.

No. A CV, GitHub profile or project examples are sufficient. We are interested in how you work and which systems you have developed.

Application received → personal feedback usually within 48 hours → technical interview about projects, stack and mutual expectations → decision. A maximum of two interviews.

Technically demanding Shopware 6 projects instead of interchangeable tickets. Real participation in architecture and backend standards. Shopware Gold Partner since 2009, short decision-making paths, no micromanagement.
